Will this anti-gun vote sink Nancy Mace’s bid for Governor?

As U.S. Representative Nancy Mace campaigns for Governor of South Carolina in 2026, her record on gun rights should raise concerns for pro-gun patriots across the state.

Mace has consistently painted herself as a staunch conservative, but her record of caving to Joe Biden and the Gun Control Lobby at times suggests she is a potential threat to recent restorations to the Second Amendment Palmetto Gun Rights members and supporters helped make happen.

Mace’s Surprising Record on Gun Control

Mace voted with Democrats and just seven other Republicans in opposition to defunding Joe Biden’s so-called “Office of Gun Violence Prevention” in 2023.

Biden, or more specifically his handlers, packed the office full of unelected bureaucrats intent on eliminating Second Amendment rights in the United States.

In September of 2024, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention issued this statement from then-Vice President Kamala Harris demanding extensive gun control:

“State legislators and members of Congress must have the courage to act by making background checks universal, passing red flag and safe storage laws, enacting a ban on bump stocks, and renewing the Assault Weapons Ban.”

The OGVP’s official stance always included banning and confiscating firearms from law-abiding Americans.

And yet, Mace voted with Democrats to fund the office.

The OGVP was later closed in 2025 under President Donald Trump’s second administration.

Mace’s stance on the Second Amendment is further drawn into question by her failure to cosponsor National Constitutional Carry (H.R. 645) in Congress despite it becoming law in South Carolina in 2024.

While numerous pro-gun members of Congress have signed on to the legislation, Mace’s unwillingness to cosponsor National Constitutional Carry raises yet another question about whether she will fully support the Second Amendment in South Carolina.

As Governor, Mace would have significant influence over state-level gun policy with the power to sign or veto legislation, as well as the authority to appoint officials responsible for implementing policies to enforce firearms laws, such as the Chief of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Director of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Her opposition to defunding a rabidly anti-gun federal gun control office, and her comments about “common sense” gun laws like “strengthening background checks” potentially leading to a national firearms registry, suggest a willingness to negotiate gun rights away in South Carolina.

Palmetto Gun Rights — Defending the Second Amendment

As the premier gun rights organization in the state, Palmetto Gun Rights is relentlessly defending the right to keep and bear arms for all law-abiding South Carolinians.

Palmetto Gun Rights worked tirelessly to make South Carolina the 29th Constitutional Carry state, and their work does not end there.

Every candidate up and down the ballot, regardless of whether they’re running for Governor or State House, has received a PGR survey to go on the record on whether or not they’re willing to defend the Second Amendment.

Candidates in key races refusing to return a survey or pledging to support gun control are being exposed to gun-owning patriots with early voting in the South Carolina June 9th primary now open.
